Narvik 2029 has appointed Peter Anderson as Assistant Sports Director. With experience at the highest level of international alpine skiing, he will play a key role in preparations for the World Cup races in 2027 and 2028, and the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Narvik in 2029.
The position has attracted significant international interest, with applicants from several countries eager to contribute to the development of one of the largest sporting projects in Norwegian history.
– We have seen considerable international interest in this position. This confirms that Narvik has established itself as an exciting project in alpine skiing. We have had many strong candidates, and we are delighted that Peter has chosen to join the team, says CEO Knut-Eirik Dybdal.
Anderson joins from his role as head coach of the Norwegian national alpine ski team, where for the past five years he has been a key member of the coaching staff supporting some of the world’s best alpine skiers. He has extensive experience in both elite sport and international competitions and brings valuable expertise to the organization.
As Assistant Sports Director, he will work closely with Sports Director Atle Skårdal to plan and deliver the sporting operations for the World Cup races in Narvik and the 2029 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships.
«– Peter brings valuable expertise in organizational development, planning and structure. Together with Atle, he gives us a leadership team whose members complement each other extremely well and which will be important for the continued development of our events.»
The World Cup returns to Narvik in 2027, 30 years after the city last hosted an Alpine Skiing World Cup event. Preparations are already well underway, and the organization is now being strengthened to ensure that the necessary systems, plans, and processes are in place well ahead of the events.
Anderson will take up the position on October 1, 2026.
– We are entering a crucial phase of the work. With the World Cup in 2027 and the World Championships in 2029 on the horizon, we need to start building capacity and expertise now. Peter will give us a significant boost and help ensure that we are as well prepared as possible to deliver world-class events, says Dybdal.
The appointment marks another important step towards establishing Narvik as a host of top-level international alpine skiing competitions and creating lasting benefits for the region through sport, volunteering and skills development.
