Steps down from the organising committee
His Majesty King Haakon steps down from the main committee for the Alpine World Ski Championships.

His Majesty King Haakon will not continue in his role as a member of the main committee for the 2029 Alpine World Ski Championships in Narvik. The decision was made as part of a review of the Royal Family’s engagements and patronages following the change of monarch.
The King took on the role on the main committee when he was Crown Prince and has followed the Narvik 2029 project for many years. At the same time, the Royal Palace has emphasised that this remains a project the King cares about, and that his attendance at the World Championships in 2029 will be considered in due course.
– We understand that the change of monarch entails a review of the King’s many commitments and positions, and we fully understand the decision not to continue his role on the main committee. At the same time, we would like to express how much it has meant to us that the King, as Crown Prince, wanted to be part of the main committee and has followed the work on Narvik 2029 over time, says Norwegian Ski Federation President Roger Finjord.
The Norwegian Ski Federation thanks His Majesty the King for his commitment, support and good wishes as preparations for the World Championships continue. We also hope to have the opportunity to welcome the King to Narvik when the championships are held in 2029.
